Maybe you’ve heard a lot or a little about Jesus. Perhaps you’ve heard that He taught about being a good person, or simply heard his name as an exclamation of pain.

We believe Jesus was more than a teacher. There have been a lot of teachers over the years, but normally they teach things that are already well known. Jesus taught things that no one had ever understood. He told of a great God who gives us, humankind, freedom from the messed-up things we do. He also claimed that He was the son of God, who came to die for us. He said that as the son of God, He was the ultimate sacrifice for our wrongs. He would carry the weight of our wrongs so we could be free.

If we believe Jesus to be a historical person, we must decide if what He claimed was true. As CS Lewis put it, “Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”

At Lakeside, we believe Jesus claims are solid. He is the son of God, the great Saviour who gave up His life for us and is worthy of being praised.

The Epic Story

Designed for good

We were made to love God, love each other, and cultivate this garden planet.

Damaged by evil

Instead, we’ve despised God, abused others, and vandalised our world. Human sin pollutes, perverts, and destroys life.

Restored for better

We’re forgiven, freed, healed, and transformed by Jesus’ sacrifice. God stepped into this world through Jesus who paid for our wrongs, and defeated the powers that lead to death. By rising again, He offers a new way forward to life. For those who admit their brokenness and sin, and align with God, a new chapter in life begins.

Sent together to heal

Jesus has empowered us with God’s spirit to live the resurrection hop, a foretaste of what will be.

Set everything right

We await the day Jesus returns to deal with all evil, rule fairly, and set everything right — a transformed world, God with us and real peace.

Not sure what to make of it all? Please talk to us about this. We are so convinced of Jesus’ claims that we have dedicated our lives to His message. We would love to help you explore the real Jesus.

A message from Anthony, Senior Pastor

If Jesus’ claims are true, where does that leave me?

I’m an average person. I work, I have friends, I go out to parties, I love bush walking. You get the point — I’m just a person. At some points in my life, I would even consider myself a good person; I love helping people and giving my time for others. This does not make up for the fact that I also get things wrong. I’ve lied, I’ve cheated people, I’ve taken things that are not mine, the list goes on.

Jesus taught that my wrongs separate me from God. Eternally, separation from God is described as ‘Hell’. Does God want this for us? No! Our actions and beliefs determine our separation from God.

Where every other belief system punishes us for our wrongdoing, Jesus took the punishment for us. If we believe Jesus to be who He says He is, His death and resurrection determines that I’m now free from the eternal consequences of my wrongdoing.

What now?

I was recently talking to someone from Lakeside who did not consider themselves ‘a Christian’. Turns out they had been going to church and reading the Bible for almost a year.

I asked, “Why do you keep coming back?”

Her response was simple. “If this is real, this changes everything.”

This story of Jesus, who came to give His life for you, could change your whole life. So, think about it — soak it in — maybe even talk to Jesus about it. The Bible tells us that Jesus’ death preceded the greatest miracle ever; his resurrection.
