Craig Mansfield Announcement

Craig Mansfield steps down from Head Coach Position – Lakeside thanks Craig for all his work leading the Women’s SBL Program over the past four seasons.

Craig Mansfield has decided he will not be returning in 2020 as Head Coach of the Lightning SBL Women.  Craig has been an outstanding contributor to the Lightning Program over many years and steps down having Head Coached 155 WSBL Games for Lakeside.  This is the most of any Lightning Women’s Coach in the club’s history.

Including games coached with other clubs, Craig has coached well over 300 SBL games and has made a huge contribution to the league, in a SBL coaching career that has now spanned almost 20 years!  To contribute at such a high standard for such a long period is incredible and we are pleased to take this opportunity to both acknowledge and thank Craig for everything he has invested in both the Lightning Program, but also Basketball in Western Australia more generally!

From a Lightning perspective, Craig’s current stint as Head Coach includes the past 4 seasons.  This began as a significant re-building phase – for both our Women’s team, but also our club as a whole.  Throughout the past four years, Craig has been a key part of our leadership team at the Lightning and has worked well with staff, volunteers and players to move our club forward.  His knowledge of the game, commitment to the club and open, honest approach have been crucial to the success of our program.

The most obvious achievement to celebrate during this time is the 2018 WSBL Championship and this will always be remembered!  At Lakeside, we believe that what we do is ‘more than a game’.  At the core of our programs, it is all about people.  Craig has been a crucial part of building on the quality culture we have at Lakeside.  While perhaps not so obvious from the outside, the biggest achievement and the legacy Craig will leave, is the current state of our program.  Craig leaves us with the Lightning Program in a very healthy position, both on and off the court and we thank him for his contribution!

On a personal note – it has been an absolute pleasure working with Craig I am thankful for the opportunity I’ve had to work with him and learn from him, over the past four years.  We wish Craig all the best for the future.

As a club, we are now searching for a new Head Coach.  We have a team that will manage this process and are now open to expressions of interest – these can be directed to Anthony Palmieri – anthony@lakeside.asn.au

Thanks very much!
